Gather labeling supplies
Collect permanent markers, colored stickers, large tape, and printed label sheets.
Number every box sequentially
Write a large number on each box using a permanent marker; start at 1 and continue across all rooms.
Apply primary room label
Attach a colored sticker or tape strip indicating the destination room.
Add detailed contents label
Below the room label, write a brief description of the box’s contents (e.g., “Dinner plates & glasses”).
Mark priority boxes
Use a star sticker or bold “PRIORITY” tag on boxes needed first in the new home.
Create a priority list
List items such as toiletries, bedding, and basic kitchenware that must be accessible immediately.
Seal boxes securely
Wrap packing tape around seams after labeling to prevent labels from rubbing off.
Document labels in inventory
Enter each box number, color code, and brief contents into the master inventory sheet.
Load boxes by room zones
Place boxes in the truck following the room order to simplify unloading.
Load heavy items first
Put sturdy, floor‑level boxes at the bottom of the truck.
Keep priority boxes near the door
Position them for quick access upon arrival.
Create a moving day label board
Hang a small whiteboard at the entrance of the new home with box numbers and room assignments.
Unload boxes room by room
Follow the inventory sheet; place each box in its designated room as you open it.
Update inventory after unpacking
Mark boxes as 'opened' in the spreadsheet and record any missing items.
Store label reference for future moves
Save the inventory sheet and photos in a cloud folder for later use.
