Enable filters for movies, TV shows, music; set maturity level

Turn on content filters and choose an appropriate maturity rating (e.g., PG‑13).

Block explicit content and lyrics

Ensure explicit movies, TV, music, and lyrics are blocked.

Disable installation from unknown sources (Android)

Turn off this setting to prevent sideloading of apps outside the Play Store.

Open Play Store/App Store; enable store parental controls, set age limit for apps, require authentication for purchases, disable in‑app purchases

In the store settings, activate parental controls, choose an age limit for apps, require a password for each purchase, and turn off in‑app purchases.

Manage screen time

Set daily limits, bedtime, and app‑specific usage to promote healthy habits.

Open Settings > Digital Wellbeing (Android) or Screen Time (iOS)

Locate the screen‑time management tool in Settings.

Set daily device usage limit

Set a time when the tablet will automatically lock for the night.

Set app-specific time limits (optional)

Optionally restrict time spent on individual apps or categories (games, social media).

Enable downtime and view weekly usage report

Activate downtime for additional restrictions and review the weekly activity summary.

Verify and maintain

Test that all controls work as intended and keep them up to date.

Log into the child profile

Switch to the child's profile to begin testing.

Attempt to access restricted content to confirm block

Try to play a blocked movie or visit a filtered website; it should be prevented.

Try making a purchase to verify authentication requirement

Attempt to buy an app; the system should ask for the parent PIN/password.

Check that screen time limits enforce as expected

Use the tablet beyond the set limit to ensure it locks or notifies appropriately.

Adjust any settings, record PINs securely, schedule monthly review

Tweak restrictions if needed, store login info in a password manager, and set a calendar reminder to revisit controls monthly.
