Checklist Items (23)

Preparation

Gather necessary tools, materials, and ensure power is off before starting.

Gather tools and materials

Collect screwdriver set, wire strippers, voltage tester, ladder, mounting hardware, and the fan kit.

Turn off power at circuit breaker

Locate the breaker for the room and switch it off to eliminate electrical hazard.

Verify power is off

Use a non-contact voltage tester on the wires to confirm no live voltage.

Safety Checks

Confirm the ceiling box is suitable for fan support and safe to work on.

Check fan-rated ceiling box

Ensure the box is labeled for fan support and securely attached to a joist.

Use ladder safely

Position a stable ladder, maintain three-point contact, and avoid overreaching.

Remove Existing Fixture

If replacing a light fixture, detach it carefully and prepare the wiring.

Remove old fixture

Unscrew mounting screws, lower the fixture, and detach any shades or bulbs.

Disconnect and cap wires

Unwire the fixture, note color connections, and cap each wire with a wire nut.

Install Fan Mounting Bracket

Secure the bracket that will hold the fan motor to the ceiling box.

Attach bracket to ceiling box

Align the bracket with the box holes and fasten using the provided screws.

Verify bracket stability

Check that the bracket does not wobble and is flush with the ceiling.

Assemble Fan Components

Put together the fan motor, downrod, blades, and any light kit per manufacturer instructions.

Unpack and identify parts

Lay out all components, refer to the parts list, and verify nothing is missing.

Attach downrod to motor

Slide the downrod onto the motor coupling and secure with the set screw or pins.

Install blade arms

Fasten each blade arm to the motor housing using the supplied bolts.

Mount fan blades

Attach each blade to its arm, ensuring they are oriented correctly and tightened evenly.

Hang Fan

Lift the assembled fan onto the bracket and make electrical connections.

Hang fan on bracket

Lift the motor assembly and seat it onto the bracket's hook or pin.

Secure fan with safety screws

Tighten the set screws or bolts that lock the fan to the bracket to prevent falling.

Connect wiring

Match black to black (hot), white to white (neutral), and green/bare to ground; secure with wire nuts.

Tuck wires and attach canopy

Pull excess wire into the ceiling box, then secure the canopy cover with screws.

Finalize and Test

Complete installation, restore power, and verify operation.

Install light bulbs and shades

Screw in bulbs, attach any light shades or covers as per the kit.

Attach pull chains or remote receiver

Clip on pull chains for speed/light control or install the remote receiver if included.

Restore power

Turn the circuit breaker back on to supply electricity to the fan.

Test fan speeds and direction

Pull the chain or use remote to cycle through speeds; confirm smooth operation and correct airflow direction.

Test light operation

Activate the light switch or chain to ensure bulbs illuminate properly.

Check for wobble and balance

If the fan wobbles, adjust blade alignment or use the balancing kit supplied.
