Step‑by‑step guide to renew an Indian passport online and offline.

Gather Required Documents
Old passport (original)
Bring your current/expired Indian passport for verification.
Self-attested photocopies of first and last two pages
Make clear photocopies of the passport's data page and the last two pages, then sign each copy.
Proof of address
Provide any one: Aadhaar card, voter ID, utility bill (not older than 3 months), or rental agreement.
Recent passport-size photographs
Two photographs with white background, size 2x2 inches, as per ICAO specifications.
Create/Login to Passport Seva Online Portal
Fill Online Application Form
Select application type
Choose 'Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport' then select 'Re-issue' for renewal.
Enter personal details
Fill in name, date of birth, address, and other details exactly as in your old passport.
Upload scanned documents
Upload PDF/JPEG of old passport, address proof, and photos; ensure each file is <2MB.
Submit and note ARN
Review the form, submit, and save the Application Reference Number (ARN) displayed.
Pay the Application Fee
Choose payment method
Select credit/debit card, net banking, UPI, or generate a challan for bank payment.
Complete transaction and save receipt
After payment, download the receipt; you’ll need it at the appointment.
Schedule Appointment at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK)
Click 'Schedule Appointment'
After payment, click the 'Schedule Appointment' button on your submitted application.
Select PSK/POPSK and slot
Choose your nearest Passport Seva Kendra, then pick a convenient date and time.
Confirm and print appointment slip
Confirm the booking and print the appointment slip; you must bring it.
Visit Appointment with Documents
Arrive early
Reach the PSK at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time to avoid delays.
Present original documents
Show your old passport, address proof, photographs, and any name change documents.
Undergo verification and biometrics
Officials will verify documents, take your photograph, and capture fingerprints.
Collect acknowledgment slip
Receive the acknowledgment slip with your file number; keep it for tracking.
Track Application Status and Collect Passport
Login and track status
Log in to the portal, click 'Track Application Status', enter ARN and DOB.
Monitor processing stages
Watch for stages like 'Under Review', 'Police Clearance Granted', 'Printed', and 'Dispatched'.
Collect passport or opt for delivery
Once status shows 'Dispatched', collect your passport from the PSK or wait for speed post delivery.
